    644 KB Hey /v/, remember me? Future !GUYX/6jp3w 12/17/08(Wed)22:08 No.24334443
It's been a while. For you, anyway. It's '95 now.

I moved into a new cohab, the Google one, my parents are at the age where they're thinking about cold sleep and they want me close by so they can be near the grandkids, if I ever give them any. I'm in the process of transferring credits to the franchise school in this hab so I won't have class until the paperwork's done. I overspent my stipend this month. I really shouldn't be dropping the cash for this connection, but my priorities are retarded like that. I haven't even bought metabs although I don't live near a resort so it's not like they're vital atm.

I've got a new panel, it's Apple so I have to wait for the permissions to transfer, so it can redownload my collection in the right format. I was near the end of nightcore when I bought the new panel (I gave the old one to my ex) and I won't be able to finish it until it's replaced. Meanwhile my global ranking is dropping and because my ingame house is persistent some faggot has probably already looted my shells.

So what's going on in 2008? =] Wii 2 is just around the corner, looking forward to that?

Heard of it, something to do with nuclear weapons? I scrolled past it a few times browsing the legacy shop.

Yes, one nuclear weapon has been used in 'war' between 2008 and 2095. Nobody was killed, it was shot down in the launch phase. Long story, but I'll give you three guesses who launched it

But yeah, no, we don't live in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.

Made a comeback recently, I was Christian for a few weeks but then it was all about Therevada Bhuddism for a while. Someone asked me about this last time, I should probably explain that nobody really commits to a religion anymore. It's more of a fashion thing, a statement you make, and they come and go in terms of popularity. Nobody really believes in supernatural stuff anymore if that's what you mean, except in certain countries I guess.

    >>Cohabs = cohabitation units?
    >>Autolabor = mechanised >>labour/manufacturing/service industry...?

Yeah. Cohabs are basically any plurally zoned building, since lots of them were converted from old malls and airports, but most of the newer ones were purpose-built to be cohabs. Think in terms of like a really big mall that has every amenity a whole city has plus apartments.

autolabor compounds are farms, mines, fisheries, factories and so on condensed onto fenced off land where robots specialized for each task produce material goods nonstop 24/7. Everyone owns a certain percentage of whatever they produce, depending on how many shares they own, and they can buy that produce with their monthly stipend.

A few questions. Since you mentioned riots, and you pic brings it up, how is society outside the cohabs, if indeed it does exist? And how do the two get along?

Also, concerning data in the future, you've obviously have gotten to the point where cryogenics is plausible, so has immersion to the internet and other electronic mediums become more sophisticated, a la IRL Home (Or even becoming psuedo-"gods" in a sense of no defined reference point or boundary?)

How does economics play out in such a society? Since living seems based off a stipend of sorts, what means of advancement socially is there, what goods and services are primarily consumed, and most importantly, what kickass game in the next few years should I collect to lock in a bunker and sell as a physical copy for a few credits down the line?

Oh yeah, are love and sex easily procurable? Or will I have to be ronery with VN's for a while longer?

Yes, most games use one of a handful of middleware engines now all of which allow you to scale all the way down to looking at individual atoms. As for VR it's a niche market but most games you can play on panel can also be played on optics if you have a good pair. I have the ones Microsoft makes, I only use it for flight/space sims, FPS and driving. You can use it on almost any game there just isn't much reason to since the panels are 3D already, and you can shift your view by moving your head, the experience is pretty similar.

Sort of. We have lots of auto labor bots that look sort of mechlike depending what their job is. Many of the swarmbots are too tiny to hold decent batteries so they have a mother, sort of a larger robot that carries them all like bees in a hive, and transmits power to them over a few hundred feet and contains the one computer that controls them all. When they're finished cleaning up or whatever the job is they all climb back into the mother robot and it takes them wherever else they need to go. Some of these are pretty big like the four legged ones that carry and refuel uavs, they had one on defenseorg that looked like an aircraft carrier on legs but only like ten feet tall, it launched little buzzers with cameras and stuff that fly inside buildings.

Thanks. Fucking pretentious bastards trying to act like this is Communist Russia.

I understand if you're unwilling to answer more than one post from a particular person, but are people capable of inhabiting machines to learn more about any tasks? I mean, if people are working on maintenance for the robots on the farms (though I'm sure those robots have maintenance droids, I mean as far down as when it becomes necessary for human intervention, though it's entirely likely that it is not.
And when I mean inhabiting, can they briefly have their consciousness moved into a system of internal cameras that program the workings of the machine into the humans brain, therein making them capable of understanding certain problems with the machine?

Also, is there a sequel to Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts? Is it decent? Does a simplistic vehicular construction system depicted in the first ever actually become a reality?

Can you have these old games programmed into your brain to play, and use the further capacities of your brain to play them in seconds to get an understanding of what the game is like? Or can that be 'coded' into your brain like some kind of futuristic (Ha) review?

Hey there future, I know you have enough trouble answering along the 4th dimension here, but I have a question regarding your time. I'm not exactly sure where we got split - I mean, there are an infinite number of possibilities - so I'm pretty curious.

You mentioned before that only one nuclear weapon was used - could you elaborate? Was this before or after 2046 and the whole 'Czar' fiasco? Did that even occur with your line?

Get back to me, comrade. Using a pretty primitive device right now, but then again, you guys haven't even got it working along the 6th dimension yet. [That's alternate branches of time, for you past fellas.]

They do, but for fun. You don't really need to exercise unless you go off your metabs for a while and overeat. Even then most of the medical courts have at least one therapy center with a pilot, it's a machine that uses the same technology as cybernetic prosthetics except instead of using your brain signals to move a robotic arm it lets a computer directly control your body, and it makes you exercise. You don't even feel anything except a warm numbness, most people sleep through it. When it's finished having you work out, one of the attendants or a bot wakes you up and they take off the brace on your neck and you're like "Fuck, all of my muscles are fucking burning". That's what it was like for me the first time anyway since I hadn't had to exercise basically ever until then.

Sure, lots of map apps do this. Most cohab corps will pay for their land to be carefully modelled so that every populated area in the maps is detailed down to each little room inside each cohab, it even populated them with little AI people. It's fun just to watch them dick around and pretend to have lives.

Some games even use the map app engines as middleware since 90% of the locations they need for the plot are already modeled.

Instead, everyone owns a share of the overall autolabor produce and this is enforced by the national gov. nobody works unless they want the extra income/shares and machines perform all of the labor.

Haha hell no, although the Yum hab I came from had a lot of the types who fill up on implants and that's one of the bright sides to the move. I don't have to come face to face with some half prosthetic invalid while I'm on break in the food court. That happened once, put me off my meal, dude had this compound optic array in his eye socket which was mostly hollow

A lot of things. Some of the technologies used to curb the effect actually make it worse. Some people think there never was a global warming problem until we tried to fix it. Also, imagine millions of autolabor compounds running 24/7 and how much pollution that produces. Not like they use combustibles for power, but a lot of the waste products are thought to have sped up the heating effect. It's leveled off and everyone credible has been on saying that it will begin to come back down in the next century, so by the time I'm out of cold sleep people will probably live outside again. Regular people I mean.

    >>What would you use income for? What would the government?

Buying stuff. It's not currency in the sense that yours is because the economy is so different of course; You recieve a monthly stipend, the amount of which is determined by how many shares your family owns. We still call them dollars, although it's different in some habs, where they're named after the parent corp. The purpose is just to keep people from consuming more than their share of goods per month. It's a way of regulating consumption, that's all, because there are only so many autolabor compounds. It's not like every single person can have as much of everything as they want, all the time especially since we've been gradually throttling down production under pressure from environmental groups who blame autolabor for the heating effect.

    >>So what does Future want to know about the past?

I believe those that are are against it because of religious reasons, solely that and nothing else.

I live in a very religious area of California at the moment, but California is overall very liberal... and yet we still turned down gay marriage just this year.

    I envy you, Future.

Trains are more fun than riding in a car, but it's just another means of transportation. You can feel the train car swaying on the track, and you can watch the scenery go past you. And of course you don't have to worry about driving.

    1. Most intelligent people don't. Religion seems to be the main cause of homophobia.
    2. It's just a cultural taboo that we've held on to. Like crossdressing, just something we see as weird.
    3. Depends. Officially, nothing, but most conservatives base their policies on the bible.
    4. Trains are fun, motorcycles are awesome.

    >>Has anyone looked into activating the other 90-something percent of our brain? Could this not be potentially lulzy?

Cog. neurobiology is at a stage where we know that's a load of shit. We use different parts of our brain from moment to moment, its never fully active with every neuron firing at once, but that doesn't mean that 90% of it does nothing. Oh also one of the big discoveries was neuroredundancy, most of the specialized sections of the brain have the ability to take on a secondary function if the portion responsible for it is damaged. Figured this out in the course of researching the best positioning of hard implants, you can interface with vision without fucking around in the actual visual cortex for example.

    >>24338783

    >>one question. What is used for fuel?

For what? Most bots run off EESU or hydrogen, like large vehicles. PRT uses EESU or nanowire for storage in case their tracks or towers go offline for some reason. Cohabs are all self sustaining with nuclear, geothermal, hydro power and wind in different combinations depending on what resources can be exploited in that region.
