A traveller. A marauder of time. We can come back and do more or less as we please - it was discovered that modifications to timelines had zero impact on the present, due to the fact that time is simply a dimension through which we move at a more or less constant velocity. Moving backwards through time is still not possible, however it IS possible for us to move instances of the past forwards to the present, view, and edit, and effectively 'commit' them. If you want to understand it, you can with your current science. Read about a guy called Riemann.

Anyway. Your 'future' guy is an imposter, as far as I know - at any rate, I'm not aware of anyone else requesting write permissions to the past in this area - unless it's Marco screwing with you/me, in which case, Marco, MOPL.

So... yeah. I can tell you the 'future' or the future, if you'd rather, but... it's nowhere near as melodramatic as you may want.

Hah! Someone asked me to keep a travel journal when I went to Island 8. I did, and everyone was appalled when, as it appeared to them, a "person roleplaying someone from the future" had written pages and pages of text in such a short time. Obviously I've thought of ways to exploit this (complete a better term paper, deliver it, pass class I would have failed) but as the changes never catch up to the present I'd never benefit from them. Future man, where did you manage to find a manual keyboard? I'm assuming that voice recognition or nerve interface technology, or both, will have advanced far enough that manually entering data is no longer needed, so if your ISP wanted people to use the entanglement service they would have to provide a voice/nerve interface UI for it.

Very well. In mid 2009 world economies crash in a fantastic fashion - not a great deal happens as an immediate result, however the long term ramifications are impressive. By 2013 the entire 'western' world is controlled by a single government, effectively, latterly known as the EUAPECS (European/American Provisional Emergency Command System) - this comes about as a result of the effective collapse of the manufacturing abilities of Europe and the United States, the disability to improve capital through export, and the need to consolidate abilities in order to combat and control Eastasia (yes, it was decided to name it after Orwell's 1984 retrospectively - at the time, it was simply 'the East').

Economic stability was not achieved until the mid 21st century - the interim period was almost entirely governed by the rapid development of new technology in the west and astounding manufacturing abilities in the east - this turnaround was spurred almost in its entirety through the demolition of western complacence and through the removal of the subservient attitude persisted in the east through til the early twencen. I shan't go into detail about the period from 2015-2050 or so, as it's not entirely pleasant. There isn't any catastrophe, so to speak, but the generation (your generation) is known as the 'Lambs', as in ,the sacrificial.
    >> seb !EaORqXjjFk 12/20/08(Sat)22:28 No.24480300
    Split reply - sincere apologies.

By our time, the world has stabilised, to an extent - capitalism reigns supreme, however, in true Keynsian fashion, is entirely driven by market demand. Poverty exists, however not in the sense in which you have come to understand it - the poor are now poor out of choice, and belong almost exclusively to religious sects who indulge in short term existence with a perspective hinging upon short term gratification. In effect, everybody who now chooses to be wealthy and more or less immortal is - gene therapy was a major development in the mid twencen, and I dare say a few of you will be alive now - my father was a web developer in the early days of the internet, and is still kicking about, although social integration has proven to be a major issue for those who are in their second centuries.

In any case - this is strictly a nutshell. If you have any questions regarding our current, or your current, or our past, or your future, ask. There's nothing I can't tell you, as the wonderful thing about all of this is that nobody believes a damn thing of what we say.

Also, in advance of the standard 'you can't travel into the past' lark, yes, this is true - you can only travel into pasts where you have set a mooring point, /however/, you can view and transmit /information/ to any past - the early 21cen internet proved extremely malleable to this kind of manipulation.

Next Nintendo console is a slight improvement over the existing XBox 360 in terms of graphical prowess. It displays in HD and the "controller" will be two handles one holds with a series of sensors that position both absolutely in 3D space.

The next Microsoft console will be nearly indistinguishable from the last except in terms of graphical power and a motion sensing control pad.

The PS4 will come out, include blue-ray as with the other consoles and be only roughly as powerful as the microsoft offering. It will enjoy much greater success on account of being priced between the Microsoft Xperience and the PS4.

In brief, your generation and partially the one to follow are viewed as that which dragged the world back into a working state - those that prospered, prospered very, very well, and most of which are still about now. Many, however, spent their lives working for the future, and for their children, and for little else. We commemorate them continually, as without the sacrifice which they made, who knows where we would be today. Certainly not where we are now. That said, those who truly understand economics and mankind as a whole (those who are operatives at FPS certainly do) realise that the actions of the generation were as a whole selfish, as without their actions as they were survival would simply not have happened.

Animators are few and far between as most of that can be done algorithmically at this point but content generation is a huge industry. It's the number one way that people bring in stipend supplements, creative work. There's no reason or need for anyone to labor, after all.

I wouldn't go that far - your generation suffered as a result of the excesses of those that preceded it, but you acted out of necessity and acted well - for the first time since the Industrial Age the world as a whole /produced/ and progressed in a truly progressive fashion - rather than simply 'Standing on the shoulders of giants', you stood by yourselves and strived, and disproved the apathetic nature presumed upon you by your forbears.

As stated - there are precious few of you still about - whilst the biomedical technology to extend life came about within your lifespans, only the few could afford it, and of those few, only a handful chose to indulge in it, due to its rather unfortunate reputation at the time.

Obviously. The stipend economy relies on autolabor compounds, fenced in regions where machines farm, manufacture, mine, anything you can think of. They labor 24/7 and every citizen who owns at least one share in the corp that owns their hab is entitled to some representative percentage of the autolabors produce. The 'money' you recieve in the form of stipends is merely to keep people from getting too greedy and consuming more than the compounds can produce.

No alien contact, although we have found microbes on Mars. There's a number of orbital resorts as well as a few resorts and a hab on the moon and a gov. outpost and hab on mars. Two space elevators, one NASA and one Virgin-Bigelow. Affordable orbital plane flights. I think that's it besides the ferries, basically reusable deep space transports. Roughly like what you may have seen in "2001 a Space Oddyssey" but with a rotating three/six capsule armature capped with a cockpit module instead of that silly sphere on the film model (checking out the wikinet page)

Grent, man, it's as if you're attempting to instill the concept of some kind of communistical utopia. Capitalism rules supreme - human nature simply does not, at this point, at least, allow for all men to be content. There are the high, there are the low, and there are the middle. The middle become the high, the high become the middle. The low remain low, and until something substantially changes, they will continue to remain low.

A bioweapon created by the united states military, stolen by the christian dominionists and used towards the end of the war. I can elaborate if you like although I'd rather not.

    >>2) What's the average "wealth" in 21st century terms for the average person in grand old 2095?

I can tell you that I make a stipend of just under $4,000 monthly and up until recently I made $7,800 monthly at my job.

    >>Middle-class? Upper-middle-class?

Huge middle class. Upper class would I guess be hab management. Anyone who gets paid in proper dollars instead of stipend funny money.

    >>3) Is SETI still around, or did they upgrade to something a bit more advanced to "hear" the cosmos?

The original SETI compound was abandoned ages ago for environmental reasons I'm sure you understand, having been in my older threads (pretty sure)

Most of that sort of thing is done in the course of ferry trips between Earth and Mars/Moon now.

    >>4) Around what time did the microprocessor become obsolete, and what replaced it?

Photonics/quantum processing, then wetware. Lots of implants these days are driven by what is essentially a grasshopper/moth brain grown around a dense contact microlattice so that it is permanently and intimately interfaced with the chip it's on. Turns out to be better at some kinds of processing than any photonic/quantum solution, especially where AI is involved.

Get used to consumer electronics having a few living parts. That actually starts to happen even before photonics hit it big.

    >>Also from previous threads, I'm assuming it's effects are like the movie 28 Days Later. Like a sort of super-Rabies.

The comparisons are inevitable but the reality was nothing like any film. You would not even know you had caught it until you saw or smelled someone who didn't have it. You'd claw at them frantically, not understanding why, only that it was the most important thing in the world to infect them. Then when you broke skin the sight of blood would irrationally repulse you, as a rabies sufferer is repulsed by water. Moments later they would have it in their bloodstream and begin to secrete the correct pheronomones, and you'd forget you ever wanted to harm them in the first place.

Before he went down for cold sleep gramps used to tell us about the mop-up, after Boston. They'd find houses with ladders, sections of fence and so on stacked against them and a bloodbath inside. What they guessed had happened is that husbands, brothers, anyone strong and capable had set out for supplies, but come back infected. They would plead with their families to let them in, try to trick them, anything to get close enough for a bite. Then they'd stack anything climbable against the house, get on the roof and crawl down through the chimney. The infected nearby would see them doing this, have the same idea and join in.

The true brutality of toxo was that it left you cogent. You experienced everything you did, and you even *wanted* to do it. During the mop up many innocent refugees were shot because there's no distinguishing beween an infected trying to fool you into getting close enough for a bite and a genuinely scared, frightened survivor.

According to wikipedia (which I assume is the predecessor of your Wikinet?), all the -current- designs run on electricity, but that doesn't mean that prototypes and early concepts didn't run on fossil fuels.

Oh, and since this -is- the video game board, a video game related question. Are you capable of playing games from our time period in your own, as "retro" titles? Do you still have to use a mouse/keyboard combo, or is there software that lets you manipulate them the same way you manipulate current-gen (for your time) games?

    >>How are the other species doing? Are polar bears extinct?

Polar bears are indeed extinct to the best of our knowledge except for those in zoos. Lots of new species actually as a result of rapid heating and cohab living; Cities have largely been abandoned and grown over. Much of what used to be tundra is now temperate forest. Rapid heating was bad for humans, good for nature.

    >>You mentioned genetically modified humans? Please explain.

A few minor edits, but the three intentionally created species are lunaran, martian and hellene. The girl I've been seeing since Summer is a lunaran. Look up reprogenetics.

    >>Also what other things has since done with genetics? Organ farms? Are there sex robots?

Food animals replace livestock. Think a blob of meat with a central organ/nervous tract that can be easily pulled out when it is fully grown. "Sexy robots" exist I guess, Dell makes a line called MyGirlfriend, the top of the line models are wetbots with living brains, mainly dog/cat/chimp.

Newp. The big thing right now is helio. Same tech as in heliodisplays but it can only show one image/object and it doesn't use any power. Projects a seemingly solid object when light hits it, so entire aspects of your outfit (wings, horns, tails, halos, flaming hair) can be essentially a trick of the light. Oh, and display fabric is used in basically all clothes, has been for years. Some kinds can even become transparent in one spot, not in another. Hah! Well sorry to shit in your meal but actually sending one through time cannot be done. We haven't even managed to send an object from place to place yet, despite teleportation being one of the staples of science fiction for the past two hundred years.

The big news in physics is however that there may soon be a way to forcibly smooth the distortions in vacuum which make up matter. So we could blink something out of existence without violating any physical law, just not recreate it there or elsewhere. Yet.

Takes place in the cloud kingdom, you befriend a fallen "Roc" whose feathers were stolen by baby bowser. Each one has a different ability such as allowing you to turn to stone, shoot fire or flatten yourself and be carried by wind. During boss fights baby bowers uses the ability of whatever feather you're fighting him for, as a sort of preview of what you'll be able to do. It's set up in a nonlinear fashion, lots of backtracking as only certain feathers can bypass certain obstacles. Enemies are now styled according to the theme of their world and have specific weaknesses to specific feather abilities.

When you get all the feathers, it restores the Roc and the final boss battle has you flying on his back, battling baby bowser in some kind of flying teacup dealie. Ends with a crash into Bowsers castle and a second boss fight against Bowser. Got a 9.4 average score.

Imagine a fully three dimensional recording with optional head tracking in which a fat slob who can't even afford metabs somehow owns a mygirlfriend he's modified so he can crawl inside its womb, only he gets stuck in there, asphyxiates and days later the video is on all the news apps. Laughed till I puked.

Sort of a psuedo MMO set in a world where everyone on Earth has been struck unconscious into a dream limbo. Each dreamscape is one persons subconscious and it is themed according to their preferences. All missions are user generated, you make them and challenge friends to complete them. When they cross into your dreamscape, everything from their clothes to their vehicles changes to fit the theme of your dreamscape. If they complete all of your challenges (maximum requirement is 8) they get your crystal shell and can visit any time.

    >>Do the ever come out with a true sequel to Counter-Strike? What style and special elements does it include?

Yes. It steals the "AI director" idea from "Left for Dead" evidently.

"What about Team Fortress? We are on 2 right now, do they come out with 3 and if so when and what is the style and or new elements in its design?"

Several more, plus a film, and there are (minor!) MMO elements, such as allowing spectators to control auto-turrets.

    >>Here's a question: If you have this power, why have you come back to /v/, and how do you even know of our existence?

4Chan in general is pretty well woven into internet culture in your period. It wasn't long before, in my attempts to trace the meanings of certain jokes repeated elsewhere, I was led back here.
