Think about this.
On this day in 1999 you went into a coma.
Today you just woke up.

How do you feel about the advancement we have made?

HDTV and Blu-rays

There's a lot of new technology, but in terms of science there's nothing new because scientists have been doing basically nothing while engineers revolutionized the world.

they had 3d movies long before 1999. Hell they used to have them on TV in big events where they gave out those Red/Blue glasses at stores.

we had HD broadcasts back in 1998.

Why not? It looks enough like sunglasses that with a hoodie on nobody notices they aren't. There's also a small, clip-on stereo 3d camera pair that lets it do augmented reality. Unfortunately there's no support in Layar or Wikitude for the addon just yet, but it's jailbroken, and apps are in the works that can properly recognize and use the fully upgraded glasses.

No, but Left 4 Dead is amazing on them. It supports stereo 3D and I've got a TrackIR4Pro that handles the head tracking. I've been playing with VR tech for years now and although every new gyro/accelerometer based tracker promises to have done away with the sensor drift problems of past devices, they're always present. Optical tracking is infinitely better and usually cheaper to boot.

It sort've feels like this last decade has been a massive improvement of everything we had in the 90s and before and just commercialized everything to everybody. And working with some high experimental stuff that we're still not quite far enough to fully understand/apply.

Hypothetically speaking the real rebirth of the internet should start making technology grow so much faster.
