    >>fine, how was yours?

Well that was like 6 or 7 months ago, but pretty wonderful. The first time I've actually had a girlfriend during the holidays, I got to do all those cliche sappy things you see in the romance apps. Went on a cruise, airship not boat obviously. The high point was giving her a handmade pendant on the deck over Oregon. The low point was throwing up in my breather. It's not a height thing or motion sickness, I let some atmosphere in when we were in a patch of gas.

I got a new pair of optics, not as good as the ones I had but really slim and stylish. The kind you can wear in public without looking invalid. Also, A new chipset for my panel which was brand new anyway so I didn't even need an upgrade, but it is slightly better so I'm going to sell the 'old' one to a classmate.

Christmas typically means vacations here, since it's cool enough to go outside even pretty far south during the winter months. What do you guys do for Christmas? old TV stuff like carriage rides or what.

    >>Do you still have the same Christmas specials on TV or whatever you guys have?

Depends what you watch. I'm not a retard, I know about the whole network/channel structure of broadcast television, and that something was always "on" whether you wanted to watch it or not, but that's not really done anymore. Except I guess for the homesite stream that just advertises new apps to give you ideas for what to watch. Lots of ads, but nothing like yours, they don't interrupt anything. All panel content (apps) are realtime so ads can be plastered on in-app surfaces like billboards and whatnot. It's always interesting to replay old apps and see what new products are in 'em, sometimes it's something hilariously out of place. (Imagine an ad for toaster ovens plastered on every signboard in schindlers list).

Christmas Celebration: Mother stayed over. No Girlfriend, had take-and-bake for dinner & a store-bought key lime pie, fell asleep at 9 so I could go to work the next day too, as I had to work Christmas day.

New Years: No girlfriend still, no one-night-stand, no whore, no family, no party, no friends, just me and my Chrono Trigger DS. Went to bed at 8:00 so I could work on New Years Day at 6:00 am. >What do you guys do for Christmas? old TV stuff like carriage rides or what.
Yes, somewhat, I tend to hang out with my family like in the old TV shows, enjoying turkey and what not (on family meetings food is must, like ALWAYS), having laughs and overall being merry.
My uncle came back from Japan for the first time in 10 years since he left, so tears ensured this time.

What brand of pie? Also, what is a "take and bake"? Do you mean from a vendor? Do you have those? Pretty sure you must have something similar.

    >>fell asleep at 9 so I could go to work the next day too, as I had to work Christmas day.

So you're made to work to survive, and those who coerce labor from you have the authority to prevent you from being with your family during Christmas. I realize I'm not impartial and that hindsight is 20/20 but you must realize how brutal that looks to me.

    >>My uncle came back from Japan for the first time in 10 years since he left, so tears ensured this time.

Why did he remain away for so long?

    >>Also: Optics? Care to elaborate?

Sure. It's something you wear across your eyes, and you can see content like on panels, still in color and 3D but you can see everything around you as well. The really high grade ones with the wide field of vision and resolution are boxy and ugly, nothing you'd wear outside, mainly just for alternative viewing of certain apps that are best played in that manner. There are lower grade optics that are much smaller, slimmer and more stylish, mainly for watching shit in transit.

    >>Did your parents tell you there was a Santa, or have people stopped lying to their children in the future?

Well, there's father page. It's someone else in the Yum hab I used to live in. "Santa" is someone different in every hab, usually fashioned after the mascot or founder of the company that owns it. Usually still looks santa-esque, though. Can't beat that time tested appeal.

I think the pie was Sara Lee. I had to get that, as the other brand was shelved upright instead of flat. These pies are barely frozen, so if they're shelved upright the pie will slowly flow to the bottom of the box (has happened).

Not rich per-se. I ignore if turkey is expensive on the future, but that aside, we don't squeeze pennies when it comes down to food.
As for my uncle, I think he went there (at first) just for the sake of doing so; think of it as vacations. Then things got... complicated. Seems he's the kind of person to just go and enjoy the world and what it has to offer. He's the kind of guy who loves hard rock, and the life that comes with it. But he has grown more mature now. He traveled a lot but stayed on Japan and made a life there (still no family as far as we know) and only came back once he had finished what he started (whatever that was) and also after finding out that my grandfather might not be able of seeing him in a couple of years more (health issues).

So you go to a store....to buy frozen stuff. Instead of just keeping it in a vendor at home and having it refilled monthly. Have I got that straight?

(I looked it up and I guess you don't have vendors, but you have like..."parts" of a vendor. It's basically like a refridgerated vending machine with a microwave built in. You tell it what you want, it suggests alternatives if what you chose is nutritionally out of line with your dietary needs, and when you finalize your selection it dispenses it internally, cooks it, and then it comes out on the tray. When you're done you just toss out the package.

You'd think that would have caught on as soon as they invented the microwave. I don't know how students and bachelors in general could live without one. There were some months during finals week when I didn't eat anything that didn't come out of my vendor.

Though not exclusively because of the ground invasion, in the coming years the free world will largely turn against Israel. With the United States under a president that most euro nations approve of, Israel becomes the new punching bag until the civil war, then obviously it's us again until we clean it up. Yes, and although I'm not an expert in biology, a number of pretty horrifying new species were discovered that you don't know about yet unless these docu apps I've been gorging on lately are completely lying to me. Mostly for the lazy, but also to cut down on traffic in the habs. One of the reasons they got built was due to the political pressure to do something to address global warming. Consolidated Habitats make better use of space and are more efficient to heat/cool than lots of little individual homes and buildings. The downside is they can feel pretty crowded, so most of the stuff you'd need to leave your apartment for in your time is now present in some form in personalized, in-home form. Haha, it's weird talking like this. Like I'm a narrator or some shit.

I'll explain the way of the world for the newbies for you.

OP lives in a society that is made up of Corporate mini-states.

Each corporation runs a dome, and supplies it's citizens with stipends, which they can use for food, and goods. Real money is earned by working, otherwise, you really don't have to do a damn thing.

Stipend money is somewhat volitile, as it may, or may not have any use outside of your own dome.

It's a welfare system with no downside. The corporations make so much flipping profit, that they can afford to babysit people without any negative outcome from it.

I feel like I'm doing a report in formative ed. I guess I should just copy and paste off wikinet and save it for future threads?

Autolabor compounds are dotted all over the earth, wherever the resources are. A wide variety of specialized robots mine, fish, farm, manufacture and so on 24/7. We consume most of these products in exchange for stipend dollars, the rest are sold internationally for proper dollars. Assuming you're born into a family that lives in the habs, one of your ancestors (my great grandfather, in my case) bought shares when the program was new and they were cheap. So long as there are shares in the family, with at least one share per person, each cohab citizen is entitled to a corresponding share of the products of autolabor.

Side note, most oceanic exploration was done in the course of scouting for potential marine autolabor sites.

    >>Whatever happened to Mexico? you said we got fucked up, but exactly how?

Lots of ways. They are slow to adopt autolabor and their economy crashes as a result (as with countless latin american and asian nations). They're also hit hard by the rapid warming effect, a result of one of our botched attempts to curb global warming. Think I explained this. Oh, and it's pretty notoriously a haven for neo chridoms as the southern reaches are free of habs except along the coasts. I don't know that anyone has real evidence that there are large concentrations of outsiders down there, and I don't know how they'd survive, but lots of apps (sensationalist ones) like to play it up as fact to scare gullible types. Like they're organized down there planning a second war or something.

    >>25165584

    >>Does any portion of the worlds population get fed up and flatout reject technology? Please say yes ;_;

Outsiders, yeah. For religious reasons. Not that a few haven't caved and come inside over the years, but it's uncommon. The ones that have come inside say pretty much the same things, that they were taught from birth that hab dwellers are immoral monsters that rape children and so on, that kind of thing. Every time someone new comes in they're sort of a minor celebrity and on all the apps they're interviewed on they seem TOTALLY SHOCKED that we're not sociopathic monsters.

Yeah. There are the islands and other orbital resorts. There's one hab on the moon with more planned, plus lunar resorts. There's one hab on mars, fewer resorts than the moon but they're still building there while lunar tourism has been on the decline for nearly ten years.

    >>Are there terraformation devices, if rudimentary?

Sort of? There are experimental sealed lava tubes on Mars. They import fertile soil mixtures and climate condition the tubes so plants will grow.

Yup. AIDs and most other STDs as well as most forms of cancer. A few remain terminal, but research continues. The 'other pill' (cures Herpes 1 and 2) sparks off the sort of controversy your parents probably remember from when birth control pills went on sale. Then again by the time that happens most of the people complaining are being ignored due to having been on the wrong side of the civil war. Or they're in jail, or outside.

I can say stuff here I couldn't get away with around Siane or my friends (one of the reasons I love entanglement posting) but you know what? Maybe if we captured all the outsiders and did the same thing to them that their grandparents/great grandparents did to mine during the war, the ashes in the atmosphere would block sunlight from hitting the Earth and we could all live outside again. Christian Dominionists. That's historys name for them. They were originally the Christian Nationalist Party of America, CNPA. Funded by a collection of organizations like The Family, The Moral Majority and so on. The Family is openly facist and unless I've been lied to they're pretty actively involved with your government even in 2009. Prayer breakfasts or something. Why none of you fuckers point that out and raise a fuss over that has always confused me. It's like, why did nobody notice/care about Hitler's involvement with the Thule society when he won that election? So much could be prevented if people just noticed that sort of thing and raised hell over it. Then again you're forced to work to live and you think that's just fine, so maybe it's a generational thing and I'll just never understand how you think.

They can be, but people still wanna hear/see their favorite celebrities in starring roles. They just rarely do any actual work, it's more a licensing thing. Their likeness is used and their voice is sampled and then recreated. The first films to do this starred people who had been dead for decades.

Human activity exacerbates it. You're actually in one of the periodic, small downturns in global temperature, part of an overall warming trend.

The rapid warming effect is what really fucks things up and depending who you ask it fucks up the reliability of natural records so much that we can't ever be 100% sure about precisely *how much* human activity was contributing to it before the project to clean particulate matter out of the upper atmosphere kicked off the RWE.

What is there to say, but this.
"As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last loose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. The wikinet on the history of autolabor says you have factory robots. I understand they're privately owned, though. But then the stipend system was implemented before autolabor anyway, it was funded by taxation of corporations exploiting the natural resources of a state. The taxed dollars were then paid back to the citizens of that state. As of 2009 (and probably long before that, I haven't checked) supposedly Alaska is running on the stipend system or something like it. It says that's part of where the concepts that formed the initiative came from.

It's funny you used that set of words: "It's my choice". I had this college class that dealt precisely on this subject. MOST of us, don't have that what you called choice. Plus! To not work, means even less choices, means poverty (and less access to precious vidya games).

I almost wonder if not having a job is a bit worse than we are nowadays.

If you're completely responsible for your income, you learn to save money for things that are important to you - beyond the basic needs of everyday life.

Perhaps if you looked at your income as something that might not always be there, you'd be more inclined to save up for big stuff - like say, moving to somewhere you could be with your girl?

I apologize, that sounds incredibly insensitive and more than a bit wrong, but I can't think of a better way to word it.

If you aren't required to work and all basic needs are tended to by technology, people only work at what they "enjoy" doing, what do people do that is worth giving them more money than the collective?

If you are productive by choice, and society doesn't require productivity to function, then why give more income to those who are productive?

It would best be done by genetically rewriting the zygote, a topic mentioned by Future.

Dunno if their genetics are advanced enough for that.

To rewrite the genetics of an adult you would need a supersplicer. If you took too long with the rewrite you'd end up with a patient's body attacking itself with its own immune system.

You still may. Cold sleep should become commercially available sometime around 2037, I watched a docu on it a while ago because you guys were asking so many questions about how it worked and stuff. There are people alive now who were born decades before the war, even.

    >>ALSO! What of nanobots, shouldn't they be able to simply replace dead cells in your body so you never grow old?

There are nanoscale robots, but so far as I know it's impossible to make ones that contain all the shit necessary to replicate. They're obviously too costly to own, rather they're medical tools for treating tumors and whatnot. And believe me they don't leave 'em in you, they get as many back as they can and by all reports it's pretty unpleasant.

We do have swarmbots though, in a bunch of different sizes. Some are as small as ants. They clean and maintain the cohab systems.

You'd be around 50 when cold sleep starts becoming available. Assuming you spend a few years in prep, you'd be asleep by 54.

If you went to sleep for 50 years, you'd age a few years, maybe? So you'd be around 60 when you woke up.

But you'd be sleeping through some serious transitions.

Here it averages about mid 70s, but many live on in to their 80s, and a few make it to their 90s or 100. In my country, citizens who reach 100 years of age are honoured by the Queen of England (not personally of course, via telegram).

    ATTN 4CHAN!

    I DONt HAVE LONG

THIS IS THE TRUTH ABOUT THE COMING YEARS HE CANT TELL YOU ABOUT
Shit goes down a little something like this:

Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, facing indictment for his extensive corruption, crosses over into Canada, in disguise, hops a plane to Namibia in hopes of sanctuary due to the small nation's lax extradition policies. The new Obama administration pressures the Namibian government to hand over Blagojevich, threatening violence. North Korea sees an opportunity for a strike against the Americans, and proposes an alliance with formerly communist Namibia: DPRK's protection in exchange for yellow cake uranium. The Namibians agree, and N. Korea quickly constructs and launches a barrage of nuclear missiles at the Californian coast; unfortunately (luckily?), the shoddily-constructed navigation system malfunctions, detonation the missiles over the Japanese countryside. In response to a perceived attack, the Japanese strike back with their secret low-orbit ion cannon. The Americans believe the low-orbit ion cannon to be a threat to national security, and launch simultaneous attacks on N. Korea and Japan. India invades China just for the hell of it, the UN pisses its pants, and the Jews and Palestinians all hold hands in one big drum circle and sing Kumbaya. The two forces, being the last left in the world capable of any military action, converge on one another, with Isreal winning, and becoming the last, and therefore dominant nation on Earth.

THIS MAN IS PURPOSELY LYING TO YOU

    JEWS TAKE OVER

    ALL INFORMATION SUPRESSED

    SLAVE COLONIES

TWO RACES - ONE JEW - ONE GENTILE, MIXED OF ALL RACES

Unless I'm way off, you're living through a series of trials over evolution. Expect a series of trials over findings in cognitive neurobiology which all point to consciousness being an emergence property of cognition, with no need for a soul.
